BLACK SWAN
Finally, I can add myself to the list of uncomfortably confused and emotionally stricken viewers of Darren Aronofsky's Black Swan. By no means do I claim to be a reputable film critic, spouting off phrases like cinematography and plot progression, but I will attest to the films stunning visuals and creative play on color to enhance the story's underlying themes. Everyone in some capacity can relate to the futile quest for perfection, which lies somewhere in the unstable unknown between the compulsive mastery of technique and the raw, artistic passion that's born of reckless abandon. What I did glean from the dancer Nina's psychotic struggle is that perfect is not an adjective; you cannot become perfect or even do something perfectly. Perfection is a moment, somewhere within the unstable zone of control and release, which few can navigate unscathed. In short the film lived up to it's acclaim. I was captivated and it made me think beyond the film's 108 minutes. A must see.
